Triple A Food Hall opened recently in Coleshill Road, Nuneaton

On occasions, I've been accused of being negative about my hometown of Nuneaton when dipping into reviews, so let me say this early doors; I think the Triple A Food Hall is one of the best consumer experiences the town has ever served up. Simple.

Okay, I am going to have to expand upon that 45-word introduction, but there is a mindset among us that we tend to get watered-down versions of things that work in other towns and cities. Pre-judgements are made: "it'll be rubbish" - substituting in a more family-friendly noun there. I implore you, if you're thinking that about this new venue, to go down and experience it for yourself.

I found myself thoroughly enjoying shopping, maybe because it was new, maybe because I saw ice cream as soon as I walked in. But in reality, it was just a buzz because something good had been created on the north side of the town, a real people puller to an area of Nuneaton that's growing by the day.

Its own website states: "Triple A Food Hall is on your side. Not just for great value basics, but also for the surprising extras, giving you the freedom to enjoy the more carefree and unexpected moments in life."

It sounds a little contrived, but they deliver on those words. I found a pint of semi-skimmed milk for 85p, a loaf of Kingsmill soft white bread for £1.25 and a tub of margarine for £1.45 - so along with all the bells and whistles I am about to discuss, the basics are not crazily priced. You could do your weekly shop here.

Alongside the aisles and aisles of basics, there's something surprising around every corner. Take for instance the entrance, which has a wall of features including a coffee machine, fizzy drinks dispensers, frozen yogurt, Tango ice blast and thick milkshakes.

Walk straight on and you'll find a huge bakery wall that I struggled to get pictures of despite circling back a few times - as people were filling bags with all manner of fresh breads and pastries - that were being restocked with fresh produce almost constantly.

I'm a pretty well-travelled guy and another example of this kind of one-stop shop doesn't leap out from my mind.

With each new feature came a reassuring price tag. Like £3.50 for a large pot of self-serve salad. A two-side island unit was brimming with options from pulled BBQ jackfruit to onion bhajis, to potato salad and jalapenos. Again, I saw it be reloaded with fresh bowls twice when I was there.

Flanking the till points is an abundance of cakes and ice creams. I bought my daughter a single scoop of a mango variety for just 75p. You really can't argue with that kind of value.

The exciting thing about this food hall is, that it's only going to get better and the offer more varied. On September 21, the hot food counter opens offering gyros, baguettes, pizza and rotisserie produce. This looks like it's going to be a real star feature, with brand new equipment proudly on show for people see through the open plan set up. Two wall-mounted ordering machines like you see at fastfood restaurants will be called into action when this section gets the green light.

Focusing on more practical features, there's ample parking and trolleys available by the entrance, the service I experienced was helpful, polite and informative. The only slight negative is, it's a little tight along the aisles. If someone stops to inspect something on a shelf, you're going to have to find another route or be patient.

You might've guessed it from the first 600 words of this article that I was well and truly sold by The Triple A Foodhall. For me, as a born and bred Nuneatonian, it's something the town can be truly proud of. It brought a bit of fun and excitement into a shopping experience without walloping you in the wallet. I could see fathers and sons, mothers and daughters saying 'why not' to some of the treats on offer.

Granted, it's a shop, it's not going to change the world, but there was a buzz about it that was different to your usual supermarket, and not just because it was new, but because there was plenty in there to make you happy, and give you the opportunity to put smiles on other peoples' faces too.
