"No essential oils or bitters in our juice; therefore, a fresher product"

Freshly squeezed orange juice is a breakfast classic, but machines for squeezing large quantities of citrus fruits or juice for self-bottling are becoming increasingly popular in the retail trade and system catering as well. Orange X-Press, a subsidiary of Llombart Handels- und Treuhandgesellschaft, has developed a special pressing technology and certainly wants to remain the innovation leader in orange juice in the future, explains Stephan Große-Rohde.

"Our system is patented and differs essentially in that we do not press the peel of the fruit, but only process the pulp. As a result, we have no essential oils or bitter substances in the juice, and therefore a fresher product," says Große-Rohde. The machines are developed and produced in South Baden and they are particularly popular within food retailing, at large canteens in public institutions and companies, and in the hotel industry. "But the nearby leisure park Europapark also uses our machines in its gastronomic surroundings. This is of course a very interesting customer for us, who is also right on our doorstep."

An important factor is also that the machine can given an individual design on the outside, according to the customer's wishes, says Große-Rohde. "This allows the machine to be perfectly integrated into the environment in which it is used."

The next big project is automation, with the aim of adding an automatic ordering service for the oranges. This would be particularly useful for companies, such as bakeries, who cannot simply obtain the fruit from their wholesaler. "The machine should be able to recognize how much juice has been pressed and will thus be able to estimate from which pressing cycle onwards a new, order has to be placed automatically."

Aspects such as the standardized, automatic filling of the bottles, without self-service levers, are to be implemented for this purpose. "By dedicated coding the bottle, the filling date, the further use of the bottle and also, if required, the filling station can be read out afterwards. This in turn improves the quality management of the operators. We want to create transparency for customers and POS in this way."

But the machine is not only suitable for classic juice oranges: "Any citrus fruit with the right dimensions, from blood oranges to limes to lemons, can be pressed with the machine. And pomegranates as well!" This makes the Orange X-Press the ideal solution for many companies. Quality is the top priority, says Große-Rohde in conclusion: "This is an idea that the company shares with its parent company Llombart - and has been doing so since 1998 - in other words, for over 20 years."
