The freight train that is the 2022 Public Service Announcement tour featuring Rage Against The Machine supported by Run The Jewels made its final stop at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night.

Rage Against The Machine’s Zack de la Rocha, Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk have been making good on rescheduled dates initially slated for 2020. The tour was due to continue on to Europe in the coming months, but after the band canceled the overseas trip due to Zack de la Rocha’s recent injury— reportedly a torn Achilles tendon—the five-night MSG run became the tour’s last stop, and Sunday’s show its final hurrah.

Run The Jewels was brilliantly energetic as always, setting the tone for the evening. El-P and Killer Mike started with aggression and never took their feet off the gas, blazing through a setlist comprised mostly of cuts from their RTJ4 release and, most suitably, “Call Ticketron”, their record boasting the hook, “Begging your pardon, Run The Jewels live from the Garden”. Killer Mike gave a impassioned speech denouncing police brutality before launching into “walking in the snow” and capping the performance with a saxophonist accompanied “a few words for the firing squad”.

The Garden came alive with frenetic energy as Rage took the stage. Zack de la Rocha remained seated through the performance, but never wavered in matching the intensity and focus of his bandmates, oftentimes serving the true center of attention on stage. The four performers blasted through their extensive catalog and even reached out to El-P and Killer Mike for a guest appearance on “Close Your Eyes (And Count To F—)”, the Run the Jewels 2 favorite on which de la Rocha was featured back in 2014. Other highlights included a floor-shaking “Bulls on Parade” and a fiery, show-closing “Killing In The Name”.
