The owner of Bizzy Bee grocery says the gas stolen from his pumps after hours was worth $1600.

High Point police have identified a man accused of stealing an estimated 400 gallons of gasoline, valued at $1,400, on March 14.

It was stolen from the Bizzy Bee Convenience Store, located on the 3800 block of North Main Street.

Police say in security video, a suspect is seen using an electronic device "to circumvent internal security programs and protections which allowed the pump to dispense gas without required payment."

The suspect has been identified as Khalif Tijee Wells, 28, of Newberry, South Carolina.

"Once they bypass the pump, they don't have to do anything. Flip the nozzle up, choose the grade and start filling," Bizzy Bee owner Hardik Patel said. "And it doesn’t stop. They can fill up as much as they want. And we ended up finding about 398 gallons on the check.”

Video shows as many as 15 different cars filling up for free over a 45 minute stretch.

Warrants for felonious larceny have been issued on Wells with full extradition from South Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee. Wells is also wanted out of Pennsylvania on unrelated charges of probation violation.

"The investigation continues as detectives are attempting to identify the other suspects involved who stole gas from the convenience store in this event. Additional charges are expected as those suspects are identified," a news release said.

Patel says he'll now be shutting the pumps off at night, saying the extra couple of customers are not worth the potential risk of losing thousands.

"I’ve never heard of it," Patel said. "I’ve been the owner for seven years and in business for 15 years, I've never seen this happen or heard that people can bypass."
